A captivating music documentary exploring Kabbalah
through song, spoken word and stunning visual imagery.

UNIVERSAL FACE is a series of ten short films, each one focusing on a different theme of universal value, derived from the Kabbalistic Sefirot, or divine emanations. Each film will model Earth, the pilot production, and explore a specific Sefira or value, through traditional translations and contemporary interpretations of its qualities. These films will express the concepts in a way that will allow any audience to grasp and appreciate the ongoing relationship between traditional values and the contemporary extractions of those values.

10 Sephirot/Values:

A musical base track and lyrics provided by one or more musicians will serve as the foundation for each of the ten films. The track will be distributed to a select group of Jewish musicians from a broad ethnic and musical disciplinary spectrum who will use their own skills to collaborate with the musical base track. A technical film and sound production crew will then visit the various musicians, and film and record their creative musical input.

Included in the content of these short films will be interviews with the musicians, and various Jewish artists, activists, scholars, sages, civilians and visionaries. The message will thus be given over through spoken word, visuals and music, creating a montage of creative expression.

By capturing the ethnic and cultural diversity within the Jewish world, UNIVERSAL FACE will appeal to a broad Jewish and global audience. The essential message of Jewish harmony and universal values will be expressed through these ten thematic segments.

A DVD and audio CD will be produced, with potential dissemination through various networks, including pay TV channels, radio, the music world, cinema art, Jewish and cultural film festivals, and as a campaign for Jewish unity.

Earth (Pilot Chapter)

Through music, spoken word, and visual imagery, Earth, the first of a ten part series, explores our relationship to the ancient teachings of Kabbalah, our own creativity, and the wide spectrum of expression found in the Jewish tradition and others. Earth is the haunting melody of Kurdish percussion, the tribal sounds of Ethiopian chanting, and the fresh lyrics of Israel's hottest hip-hop artist. Earth is the poetry of a surfing Rabbi, the inspiration behind Israel's fine-artists, and the responsibility we have to each other. Artfully filmed with a mind-blowing soundtrack, Universal Face's pilot film, Earth, provides a foundation for all of us to get in touch with who we are as individuals in the contemporary world, rooted in traditional values.
